Py|ro|gal|lol [↑ pyro- (1), ↑ Gallussäure (liefert P. beim Erhitzen) u. ↑ -ol (1)], das; -s; Syn.: (systematisch:) Benzol-1,2,3-triol, (veraltet:) 1,2,3-Trihydroxybenzol, Pyrogallussäure: farblose, lichtempfindliche, krist. Verb., Smp. 134 °C, die als starkes Reduktions- u. Sauerstoffabsorptionsmittel verwendet wird.

Pyrogallol
 
das, -s, Pyrogạllussäure, dreiwertiges, mit Phloroglucin isomeres Phenol (chemisch das 1,2,3-Trihydroxybenzol); farblose, kristalline, in Wasser und Alkohol lösliche Substanz, die sich an der Luft rasch verfärbt und die man z. B. aus Gallussäure durch Decarboxylieren erhält. Pyrogallol wird u. a. in der Gasanalyse zur Absorption von Sauerstoff sowie als Stabilisator für Hydrauliköle und Schmierfette verwendet.
